This coming Sunday is the chinese lunar calendar month 5th day 5th. It is our chinese traditional Dumpling Festival also called Dragon Boat Festival. As usually, family all will gather for a meal and yak some chinese dumpling (zongzi).
I like varies type of dumpling fillings like red beans, those with meat, mushroom, beans, dried shrimps, chesnuts, salted duck eggs, nyonya and etc. Can’t eat much at a time, the most 2 will make you feel very full. For many years, due to busy at work, my mum not making any dumpling for us. This year she have some extra time and I’m so happy that she will making some to eat and distribute. She even surprise us that she will put dry scallops as one of the filling ingredient.
The skill of wrapping this triangle shape of glutinous rice is not really easy. During those day when I got chance help out in the making, I tried before, really it need lots of skill to wrap it tight and in shape. This morning went to market to do my weekly purchases, walk across lots of stalls selling dumpling.
I bought 2 (one for big man) to eat as breakfast also at the same time to check price. Since many things are increasing lately, it cost RM4.50 per piece. That only for a normal filling with meat, mushroom and beans only. Those with extra ingredient I believe it is above RM5. Duh, expensive betul…

Anyway life still goes on and yeah it is more hard now with the recent whopping increase of petrol price and soon on electricity and believe with petrol increase everything will increase very soon. All the best to all of us to continue to survive under the situation of salary-no-increase-yet.
Wishes you,
HAPPY DUMPLING FESTIVAL ~ 端午节快乐! ~
Belanja you a bite of my RM4.50 zong
